Curral do Negro is fully accessible via a normal tarmac road. Some GPS devices or sat-nav systems may suggest an alternative route via dirt tracks. This route is longer and only suitable for 4×4 vehicles. We recommend that you always follow the signs for Gouveia and then for Curral do Negro via the main road.
If you are coming from Coimbra, Viseu, Guarda or Salamanca, we recommend that you head first to the town of Gouveia. From the Gouveia police station (“PSP”), follow the signs for Curral do Negro. The park is about 5 minutes’ drive away, up a tarmac road.





The town of Gouveia has regular connections through the Rede Expressos network, with services from Lisbon, Coimbra, Porto, Viseu and other Portuguese cities. The bus station is located about 4 km from Curral do Negro, approximately a 40-minute walk away; it is also possible to take a taxi for the final leg of the journey to the park.
Curral do Negro is easily accessible via CP’s Beira Alta Line (Intercity) and via regional trains from Coimbra and Guarda. The nearest railway stations are Gouveia (17 km, not all Intercity trains stop here) and Fornos de Algodres (20 km), with direct connections to Lisbon, Coimbra and Guarda. From the stations, you can continue your journey by taxi. Trains generally offer bicycle transport, subject to prior booking via the website or app.
